FRONT COVER
I chose to use that particular picture of Lizzie for various reasons, firstly I believe what she was wearing had perfect connotation towards her situation, as I have mentioned before in previous blogs, we had chosen that particular attire for her for special reasons. Her pink dress had connotations of 'girliness' and 'girl power' whereas the coat keeps her looking mysterious which is exactly what she is, as she is a new artist people will be curious of her and what she is selling and I believe the coat plays on the mystery. I gave her a satin effect which in turn made her look like "a cartoon charater", I believe this was rather effective as cartoons are surreal and enjoyable and I think that is what she represents, a surreal image that is enjoyable by all. I made sure her leg and and her name where placed in the centre of the cover because I know how important the centre of the cover is. A person looking at the cover will automatically look at the centre point and by featuring her name and her bare, seductive leg will be extremely effective. The person will remember seeing the leg and the high heels and will either enjoy the image especially if he is a hetrosexual male or extremely dislike the image however both will arise emotion and thus with this emotion the name is looked at and remembered better than if the person had no feeling towards the image. Moreover I placed her actual body on the left of the cover and her name on the right which is effective in the western world where people are used to reading from left to right, this will also ensure that the audience see her image first before her name as to remember her for longer with more effect. I also maintained Laura Maulvey's theory of the 'Male Gaze' by attracting the male audience to her bare body parts and minimal clothing as I believe this is an effective way to market a product if you want it to become successful, as it has been proven to be extremely successful although not ethical. Lastly, I believe that by creating synergy in having her wear the same types of clothes as the ones in the video was effective as it will constantly remind the audience of who she is and what she looks like.
BACK COVER
For the back cover of the digipack I decided to have a less explicit approach, I decided to have her wearing all black but still I wanted a picture of her to be used as she is still a new artist the audience need reminding of who she is constantly. I believe the repetition of her picture is effective as it will keep reminding the audience of her image and her product, which will in turn make her recognisable and mainstream therefore being able to sell more products just because of her familiar image. I wanted her to still show the outline of her curves but look natural and laid back almost contrasting the image on the front cover, I believe this would be effective as it shows that she has more layers and is not just a bare legged poser but also has a laid back and natural side which will get the majority of the female audience interested in her product. I also believe that echoeing the pattern used on the front and extending it also creates synergy from cover to cover making the product once again more well known but also allowing the digipack to look slightly more professional and better organised. The name of the album is also repeated in the same format once again to remind the audience of her product which is effective marketing in itself. The tracklist is kept in the conventional layout of all R'n'B Cd's having the songs all in one line with the numbers all together, this helps the audience establish what type of product this is and what genre it is, leaving the target audience(R'n'B listeners) to enjoy the product or people who don't usually listen to R'n'B but are curious.
INSIDE- CD SLOT BACKGROUND
In keeping with the seductive theme and sex appeal it was only appropriate that I should use a picture of luscious lips in a seductive lip biting pose. As you can see the artist's name and CD title are repeated for the same reasons as before, I wanted to keep the background of the CD slot as simple as I could so that most/ all the attention can remain on the actual CD which is actually the main product.
INSIDE OPPOSITE CD SLOT
Once again I decided to echo the pattern on the right hand side of the inside cover. I decided to add the lyrics as this not only reinforces R'n'B conventions of the CD but once again promotes the song and encourages the audience to sing along to the song promoting the song further.
